Hasunosora starter pack

オタ活 | November 2024Read in Outline

So, you're interested in Hasunosora? Here is my take on the introduction to the franchise.

Last updated 11/21/2024

Hasunosora girls High School Idol Club (Often shortened as Hasu) is a virtual school Idol club whose activity is based on the smartphone application "Link! Like! LoveLive!".

The premise of the project is that the time flows in the same matter as real time. So school term starts in April and ends in March. Quoting from the official twitter (sloppily translated):

"Hasunosora girls High School Idol Club is a real-time project which the timeline links to real school calendars, we experience happy and sad times together with the girls 365 days a year within the limited time from admission to graduation."

As the time flows, there are more and more content coming out on a daily/weekly basis which could sound difficult catch up. But I believe the most important thing is to take it your own pace, there is no need to quickly catch up all the story or listen to all the music. Best to start from what you like most and then work your way from there.

There is no too early or too late to start learning about Hasunosora, the best time to enjoy Hasunosora is the present as we're all living in the same moment together.

I won't be touching into the story and the characters much. Hopefully this guide will give you a quick introduction to what is available and ultimately convince you to join us Hasunosora no koto ga sukisuki club no minasan. (sukisuki club/ official fan name)

TL;DR Guide

You like story/ characters

Hasunosora have a very extensive storyline as everything moves in real time and there are new episodes coming out every month. Right now we're on to the 2nd year of the franchise and things are getting really heated up.

Most of the episodes are translated and uploaded to Youtube already, but if you want to the episode by the time it release you will need Link! Like! LoveLive! app (no gameplay required to watch the story).

If you want a quick dive into Hasunosora story, I recommend giving the first episode a watch as that's also what got me hooked into the franchise in the beginning.

You like music

Hasu has a lot of great music, whether it's group song or each unit songs.

You like cute girls

If you want to learn more about the cast/seiyuu, Hasunosora got you covered already with its weekly variety show "Se-no de Hasunosora (Ready, set, Hasunosora!)". The content is top tier and every episode is enjoyable. Few episodes are already translated by Team ONIBE, and there are short clips here and there on youtube too. Music

For a super quick background, Hasunosora School Idol Club is divided into 3 sub units which the music and costumes are passed by tradition. Because the members are different between school terms, the unit and the songs also change with each generation too.

The lyrics or context of the songs are usually related to activity records that month, so if you're into it you will feel more deeply connected to the music. Sometimes the context will show up later on in the story which is very interesting. (Like how Sugao no pixel is not just a cute song about capturing a moment but a letter written for graduating upperclassmen)

Group Songs

Here are some notable Hasunosora School Idol Club songs.

Dream Believers: the debut song, the goat, the "everywhere I go I hear this song" song

The three units are Cerise Bouquet, DOLLCHESTRA and Mira-cra Park! I can't really describe the music probably but I'll try my best.

Cerise Bouquet

Stereotypical idol style unit consisting of Momose Ginko, Hinoshita Kaho and Otomune Kozue.

If you're familiar with most idol songs it will feel like home.

some popular songs are: Suisai Sekai, Genyou Yakou, Holiday Holiday, Reflection in the mirror, and too many more

DOLLCHESTRA

Cool Unit consisting of Kachimachi Kosuzu, Murano Sayaka and Yuugiri Tsuzuri.

I think DOLLCHESTRA songs are mostly very vibe.

Link ! Like ! LoveLive!

The application where most of Hasunosora activities resides. The Story, Streams (With x Meets) and Lives (Fes x Live) are available within the app to watch at anytime (There are some extra content which requires gifting or minimal gameplay which shouldn't be much of a hurdle). Most of the content are available on YouTube already, but those are mostly delayed by a month or two.

There is also rhythm card game within Link Like LoveLive too but it's not much play is required to unlock the content (With x Meets After and Fes x Live After).

Activity Records (Story)

Hasunosora Activity Records is basically the events that happens in each month in almost real-time fashion. There is usually a new chapter every month which is around 40 minutes to an hour. The timing of each episode's release is irregular as it correlates with whatever is happening that month such as upcoming Fes x Live, School Festival, LoveLive! competition etc.

The amount of story to catch up may sound daunting (like 24hr-ish worth of content), but personally I believe it's ok to go start watching from newer ones as I feel like catching up with current story is as important as watching everything.

With x Meets (Live Streams)

With x Meets are almost regularly held at 20:30 on Monday, Thursday and 21:00 on Saturday.

The content ranges from typical Youtuber things to simply talking about their hobbies. Sometimes there contents are related to the story too, so watching story + live stream will give you maximum context of what's going on. (In-universe, the streams are where the members interacted with the viewers, but somehow we can also see their behind-the-scenes via activity records too).

Within each With x Meets, users can gift the streamer to gain fan points (gift can be acquired from doing missing in the game or pulling gacha, the fan points are crucial to get high score during events) and access to With x Meets after which is extra content about the stream. The content in With x Meets after ranges from extra talk about the main part or heavy lore drop.

Every With x Meets archive can be watched inside Link!Like!LoveLive! and you can send gift to past streams to watch With x Meets After too.

Personally I have given up watching the earlier one already because there is just too many content lol

Fes x Live (Live Performance)

Quarterly Live Performance inside the application. This used to be a monthly event during 103th term but they reduced the frequency to once a term (3 months) after we moved on to 104th term. The performance is fully motion captured live and rendered directly in your device.

Users who participated in School Idol Stage gets access to Fes x Live After and an option to freely select the camera (dynamic camera, fixed crowd camera, fixed stage camera, member lock-on camera) depending on the ranking they get. Fes x Live After usually includes message from each members commenting about the live and screenshot time.

School Idol Stage

School Idol Stage is a deck building game where you try to get as much LOVE as possible, many people do enjoy the game as it's quite fun to figure out a deck to try reach for high score. But as of late, the meta changes very rapidly which is getting more and more difficult to keep up.

Each cards used in the game have a voice message with it which will further give you even more context about the costume/songs or the event happening. If you don't want to play the game, I'm sure these are available somewhere online.

It's the "game" part of the game, but don't play… Just kidding, If you like playing video gamers here is a guide from Kach.

Seiyuu Content

Hasu girls are very cute so obviously there is so many content such as live performances, variety show, radio program and live streams to follow.

Live Performance

Hasunosora live covers the story/ song releases during the time of the live, so it'll feel like a summary of the Fes x Lives with occasional songs here and there.

Having performer sync up choreography with their 2d counter part is a big part of LoveLive! Live performances, Hasu got this covered as the performers are the same person doing all the motion capture. The camerawork, stage and lighting is also well thought out to match the Fes x Live counterpart too.

There are paid live streams are for each live performances to, so each event page a check for more info.

Other Content

LoveLive! Flowers - Hasunosora School Idol Club

Manga adaptation of the activity records, but from a slightly different perspective (?). It's not really a one to one adaption of the activity records available in game.

Read first chapter here (Japanese): https://tonarinoyj.jp/episode/14079602755582006280

Link! Like! LoveLive! 4-koma

Almost real time 4-panel manga about daily lives of the girls released on an irregular schedule, the content is shockingly relevant to the current story and have many hidden lore/ easter eggs.

Translated 4-koma episodes (idol.st): https://idol.st/comics/LinkLike/

TikTok/ Short Videos

Hasunosora also made a couple of short videos/TikToks early on, but they stop uploading that in favor of WithxMeets clips. I haven't caught up on that yet but it looked very interesting.
