6/3 Update: I made it more legible and add more content
The story starts when Megu first joined Hasunosora. She had a successful career as a talent until she got bad grades, so her mom paused her activities and sent her to Hasunosora. She was very sad because she couldn't waste time in this school and wanted to find a way to resume her career. She was angry at her mom, but because she lost the fight with her, she now had to wear the Hasunosora uniform. The crimson red fabric and teal scarf served as proof of her loss.
After strolling around, finding things to do, she was recruited into the club by Sachi, who was quite desperate at the time, fearing zero club members. Megu hesitated at first because she had her pride as a talent doing something amateurish like a school idol, but Sachi convinced her to "temporarily" join the club.
In the club room, Kozue and Tsuzuri were already there. Kozue joined because she watched Muse on TV and felt the spark <insert backstory where Kozue was raised in a music family but wanted to be an idol, joining Hasunosora>; she was a very toxic school idol fan. Tsuzuri was also there because she wanted to become a school idol. Megu had no idea what a school idol and LoveLive was, so Kozue had to give her a lesson, but her own ego as a talent, freshly out of a job, didn't help and turned into a debate. (This would happen too many times).
They started practicing right away. Tsuzuri had insane talent and flexed on the other two, but she had negative infinity self-esteem. Megu could dance decently, and Kozue was good at her ballet stuff. Kozue struggled to operate her smartphone to play the song.
After the practice, they went to a hot spring bath together and had a bit more chill talk. Kozue found out that Tsuzuri also didn't know anything about the LL! competition, so she brought Tsuzuri and Megu to her room to give her a lesson. (Tsuzuri didn't know how to dry her hair with a dryer). She tried to play several videos about school idols, but had some trouble doing so. All three of them watched videos the whole night and all went absent from morning assembly and were punished to sit in the hallway.
Sachi decided to do a live at the end of April, but before that, they had to decide on the units. Sachi had already decided she'd be in DOLLCHESTRA with Tsuzuri, leaving Kozue and Megu to form a unit. Kozue: "No fucking way I'll be in Cerise Bouquet with this girl." So Sachi used her plan A, "Fuck it, I'll do three units". Sachi took turns practicing with each girl, so she had to practice three times. Last year, they did the same and changed units every month.
Sachi brought the three to Omicho Market (her senpai also brought her there) as part of their training and to get to know the fans. Kozue and Megu worked, but Tsuzuri didn't know what the fuck she could do, so she was sad. Megu then gave Tsuzuri a therapy session. Tsuzuri was sad because when she said she'd become a school idol to her friends at dance school, they said, "You are Yuugiri Tsuzuri, not a school idol." Sachi also said the same thing, so Tsuzuri became sad because she wouldn't become a school idol if she was still Yuugiri Tsuzuri. Megu said she was just being gaslit by someone who was jealous of her talent; she was being manipulated like a marionette.
The therapy wasn't effective, so Megu called Sachi to help. Sachi said anyone could become a school idol without needing any condition, but the person had to accept that they were one. It wouldn't work if you didn't accept yourself as one. Sachi said she couldn't stop the rain inside Tsuzuri's heart, but she could find a place where her heart could shelter from the rain. Steps brought her to a park; they performed "Sparkly Spot" to people chilling there. Megu thought there was no way it would work, but the more she watched Tsuzuri perform, the Tsuzuri she was worried about turned into something she couldn't look away from.
After the performance, Sachi said to Tsuzuri, "You'll be performing countless times on stage, and doing so, you'll slowly become a school idol. If you can perform on stage here again, you'll be freed. You'll be accepted and become a full-fledged school idol." Megu asked what Sachi had done to her, and she replied, "She got cursed; it won't come off just by performing once or twice. So I put another curse on her so that she continues going on stage and enjoys becoming a school idol. A rain shade won't last forever; after a year, once she accumulates her experience and connections, she'll become one. I'm just preparing her for the day she'll become a school idol, entrusting her to the future." Megu: "Bro, that's not a curse; that's hope." The next day, Megu went earlier than usual to practice and found Kozu doing the same. She thought, "Holy shit, she's the real deal," and they were both fired up by Tsuzuri.
After the live in Omicho Market, they went on to practice as usual. They took turns practicing with Sachi, but Megu skipped practice because she wanted to watch the show she had just graduated from. Kozue was pissed off because she really wanted to win LoveLive! and that was a dumb reason to skip a practice session. But then Megu didn't return for two days.
Kozue found Megu and talked to her; Megu said she wanted to quit being a school idol. Kozue demanded more explanation, so they went to Megu's room. She explained that when she watched the show the other day, she also looked at the reception from the fans. They all moved on to the new girl who got on the show, and nobody talked about her anymore. She felt the urgency to go back into the talent business and couldn't spend time on a detour becoming a school idol. She planned to go as far as quitting her current agency and finding another one that the school would accept.
She didn't have any particular reason to become a talent, but her dream was to , and school idols weren't doing it and were a waste of time. Kozue said if it was what she thought was correct, but school idols weren't that cheap. One live could change someone for a lifetime, and her "" dream could be fulfilled. They had another fight again, stepping on each other's dreams. Megu challenged Kozue to captivate her with her performance, to show her a live that she wouldn't forget in a lifetime, and she would keep doing school idol activities.
Kozu accepted the challenge and went on an even more intense training arc; she tried so hard she had to dance in the rain because there was no practice room. Megu showed up, "Bro, chill out. You worked too hard; you'll become sick. I don't want you to use that as an excuse if you suck on stage. Here, I got you a (practice) room." Kozu: ".... K, thanks."
Fast forward to the day of the live, Sachi showed them four new Dream Believers costumes, and the one Sachi wore herself was DOLLCHESTRA (mind-blown noises). Kozue was excited because she was a big Hasunosora fan.
The order of the performance was DOLLCHESTRA, Cerise Bouquet, Mira-cra Park. DOLLCHESTRA flexed with "Sparkly Spot" as usual. Cerise Bouquet performed "Reflection in the Mirror" because Kozue first heard the song when she saw Hasunosora. Then came Kozu's turn; she was tense as fuck on stage until the end of the first verse. Megu, from the side of the stage, shouted, "What the fuck are you doing? Is this really your debut live? Isn't this what you longed for? Are you proud of something like this?" Something clicked inside Kozue, and she performed well again. It reminded her of the feelings when she watched Tsuzuri, or even more. Then Megu went on stage and performed "Identity."
The live was a success, and they had a small party in the club room. Sachi brought Manekko doubutsu, and they drank juice in paper cups. Kozue wanted to bring her tea set into the club room, Tsuzuri wanted snacks, and Megu wanted to bring a sleeping bag. Megu called Ruri and told her she was now a school idol.
Sachi introduced Megu to the Hasunosora School Idol Connect account, which wasn't being used. She wanted Megu to try and show Kozue and Tsuzuri that streaming was fun. Megu, who was used to having a bunch of staff working for her, felt unsure if streaming on School Idol Connect was right for her. When she watched some streams on the platform and they sucked, she threw her phone.
The next goal for the school idol club was to perform in Nadeshiko-sai. This time, people from outside the school would come and watch, and there would be a stream for the live. The scale of the event was even larger, and they started preparing for it right away.
As days of practicing passed, it became more apparent to her that her singing and dancing skills were not up to par with Kozue and Tsuzuri, and they wouldn't change in a short time. She couldn't just keep taking Ls like this and realized the one area where she could easily beat the two was streaming. She decided to give it a go; the more fans she got from the stream, the more lit the live would be. She cleaned the room and started the stream without much of a plan. Albeit Sachi walking in mid-stream, the first stream ended. She looked at the responses on the internet and decided to come up with ideas to make it more interesting. While she was struggling to find the idea, Tsuzuri and Kozue showed up, and Megu asked for their feedback. Tsuzuri said maybe the viewers wanted to know more about her, and Kozue gave her support. Megumi was inspired, and her second stream became a big hit.
The next stream, she streamed in her room in her private outfit. This was because everyone else streamed in their uniform most of the time, so this would stand out, and she would get more intimacy with the listener. The response was great, but Sachi said, "Yo, the idea is good, but did you get the permit from the dorm lady yet?" She (kind of saw this coming) decided to unlist her video. Sadge. She didn't want to be in trouble and get Nadeshiko-sai canceled.
However, she didn't give up and streamed every day. She started to build more of her character with her greeting (HaroMegu/BaiMegu) or introduced whiteboards and made it different every time. One day, Sachi showed them that she became Monthly MVP on School Idol Connect. Tsuzuri became interested in streaming, and Kozue, though still a bit shy about it, congratulated her. Megu offered to help as a proud Monthly MVP.
Kozue mentioned out of the blue she wanted to make a song. Megu doubted her; Tsuzuri looked forward to performing it.
Kozue and Megumi gathered and helped wake up Tsuzuri for school. A few things happened during mid-June that made them closer, and especially Kozue becoming softer. Kozue discovered that both Tsuzuri and Megumi sucked at studying and were harsh on them. Then a few things happened, and they ended up congratulating Kozue on her birthday together. After that, Kozue self-reflected and became a bit softer on them. (This is the part in the drama CD).
Sachi also worked day and night at the Nadeshiko-sai committee, so she wasn't in the club room. Kozue decided to show her new song to Megumi and Tsuzuri. Megu was genuinely impressed that she made the song by herself, as Megu was used to having people make songs for her. Kozue wrote the song as one that marked the beginning of the 102nd Hasunosora School Idol Club, to be performed at Nadeshiko-sai. When Megu asked what the title of the song was, she completely forgot to name it. Tsuzuri was in charge of choreography, and Megu would be in charge of the costumes. She wanted to make a costume that fit the mood of the song. The Megumi who was bored of getting trapped in Hasunosora was nowhere to be seen.
Later, the club members worked together to build the stage. They listened to the new song while working. Sachi, hearing the song, said it was great, and she was happy there was someone who could write songs here and create new traditional songs. The newsletter club asked the school idol club for a column to be published. Sachi said every year they asked the first-years to write about their senpais. Megu started collecting data right away, asking Sachi questions.
Sachi first became interested in school idols when her parents brought her to Nadeshiko-sai when she was young. She wasn't actively working towards becoming a school idol like Kozue, but the three seniors in the club at the time were very locked in to get Sachi to join, going as far as to follow her around and wait in front of her room. Sachi didn't like being in front of people too much, but it looked fun, so she gave in. She didn't like being in front of people in the sense that she was class representative from primary school until middle school and had to talk in front of people all the time. People who stood there got hated on, whether for big or small matters, so she got sick of it when she became a high schooler. Joining the school idol club was different; she felt so free, like she grew a pair of wings (see appendix). After getting a taste of joy from freedom, she wanted to create stages where people could enjoy, and she was really happy three of them joined the club this year.
The atmosphere was very lively, reminding Sachi of the days when the seniors were still there. No more sitting alone in the club, fearing no one would join. After Nadeshiko-sai, there would be Rindou-sai, LoveLive! Preliminaries, and Renge-sai at the end of the year. A bright future awaited everyone in the club. Before everyone went back to work, Megu reaffirmed to Sachi that the two years they'd be together would be even more fun than before.
A week after building the stage, during practice, Sachi clearly looked dead because she had to practice five songs while doing committee work. They decided to perform "Dream Believers," one dentou song each, and the new song. Kozue proposed they postpone the new song to perform at another time, to lessen the load. Sachi said she'd ask the people at the committee to take some work off her, but Megu said that burden would go to someone else, which wasn't what Sachi wanted. Instead, Megu proposed that only Kozu, Megu, and Tsuzu would perform "On Your Mark."
However, the choreography Tsuzuri came up with was too good; Kozue and Megu couldn't keep up with it. Tsuzu became sad because Kozu and Megu didn't look like they had fun and kept apologizing. Kozue and Megu fought a bit again; Megu crashed out to cool down outside. Tsuzu followed Megu outside to try to cheer her up like she did for her. Tsuzu kept apologizing again. Megu got fed up with it and said, "Bro, did you make the choreography to make us feel bad? If not, then don't apologize; the choreography is perfect, but we just pissed ourselves off because we suck, for fuck's sake!" They both went back to the room, and Kozu and Megu apologized to one another.
The problem still remained that the choreography was too difficult. Megu proposed that they change the choreography, albeit having only a week left for preparation. The choreography was difficult because it was created with three Tsuzuris in mind, and there were a lot of movements the two were not used to. Megu proposed using Tsuzuri's choreography as a basis and then adjusting it to fit with everyone. That way, even though they couldn't become one, they could work together to create something that could capture everyone's attention.
Kozue mentioned that she looked up to Tsuzuri for remembering the choreography so quickly and to Megu for having such creativity that she didn't have. Compared to herself, she got all anxious about changing the choreography. She was desperate, trying to catch up with the other two by creating the song. Kozue wanted to fulfill the dream of winning LoveLive!, but every morning she woke up, she kept seeing dreams she couldn't fulfill. It was as if the gods were saying that it was impossible. She really wanted to make the performance of her new song a success. Tsuzuri reassured her that school idols didn't need to be perfect. Megu said that she also felt the same, not knowing how to make the live a success or whether her dream would be fulfilled. But if you don't start running, you won't ever reach the goal; you just have to keep running forward.
As they changed the choreography bit by bit, one problem still remained. They had no time to make an outfit. But then again, Megumi came up with another brilliant idea.
The performance order was decided by rock-paper-scissors again: Cerise Bouquet, DOLLCHESTRA, and Mira-cra Park. After the three units' songs and four-member song, they went backstage to take off their "Dream Believers" costumes. Meanwhile, Sachi did an MC to stall time for the three to change. The crimson red fabric and teal scarf that once served as proof of her loss became the outfit they used to chase their dreams. Hasunosora Girls' High uniform with the longest tradition.
They put their hands together and cheered up. That was the first time they were in sync. Sachi, seeing them running up the stage, cued up the new song, the song that marked the start of their new beginning: "On Your Mark."
After the performance, they had a party again, and Sachi mentioned that people cough cough said that the three were called "Hasunosora Daisankaku."
